Review: Big Book of Cloze:Prim-Ed

Everyone loves a cloze test! They are tried and tested ways of helping children with a range of skills needed for reading, writing and comprehension.

I am working in English as an additional language this year and am teaching children from ages of four to twelve. It can be challenging for older language learners as they may have acquired the speaking and listening skills but find the writing element of the English curriculum more difficult.

I have been using the cloze tests as one way to help the older students with their vocabulary, reading, writing and comprehension.

The Big Book of Cloze book gives the teacher simple, photocopiable practice sheets. My students enjoyed them as they saw them as a puzzle and the themes were of interest to them such as chess, festivals around the world or David Beckham.

This book is probably a well used resource book for every learning support and resource teacher but can also be used for extension or homework. A great all rounder.

It is available from the prim-ed website at only €14.95 and comes in lower, middle and upper levels. I was using the lower levels for 4th class EAl students but I hope to move up to middle level as the year progresses.
