Twitter organising #EducationDay

I received an email today from someone called Shona who works for Twitter. The press release is as follows:

Education is a hot topic for young people on Twitter. Students and school are using Twitter to show what they have been learning and use the platform as their voice. This offers a huge opportunity for educational institutions and instructors to reach out to students with the right message at the right moment. For students Twitter is also a gigantic database of relevant information and interesting content when it comes to homework and assignments. Twitter is organizing a European #EducationDay in order to offer support to both students and educational institutions. This first international #EducationDay aims to bring the two target groups closer together, giving them the best possible use of facilities to search, inspire and inform with Twitter.

Twitter #EducationDay will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2015 in multiple countries across Europe, including England, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany and Italy. Under the hashtag #EducationDay, a variety of online initiatives will run for elementary schools, middle schools, special education, high schools and universities. Twitter is looking for educational institutions who would like to take part in this inaugural international event. Participation is free and easy. Participating institutions are asked to do the following:

  1. To have an active Twitter account.

  2. To participate in low-key but highly engaging and inspiring Twitter initiatives during #EducationDay that are developed for primary schools, secondary schools and universities, sharing the work they do within the classroom on Twitter

  3. To make an employee of the educational institution available during #EducationDay for communication through the Twitter account.

  4. OPTIONAL: To create your own initiatives under the #EducationDay hashtag

For all of the items listed above, you will have the full support and guidance of Twitter in setting up your activities. During #EducationDay, Twitter will also organize various information activities to raise awareness among students and educational institutions about the possibilities

It sounds likes a nice idea. I do wonder, however, if they’ve heard of #edchatie?
