Contrary to salespeople’s beliefs, it’s totally fine to have a mixture of Interactive Whiteboards in a school. In reality, they all more or less do the same thing. However, more importantly, some IWBs are not suitable for particular children. Examples include children who cannot grip a pen or children in wheelchairs so certain rooms may need a different board to the rest.
So in short, the answer is yes. However, I would recommend using the same software in each classroom. Just like how students take various means of transport to the school (visit scootersleuth.com), in the same way they also have different abilities to learn from a board. Almost all companies offer to sell (or offer for free) their software separately from the board itself. So, if you bought a Promethean board and you’ve now bought a Clasus board, for example, there is no reason to keep buying Promethean boards. You can download Promethean’s excellent software and use it on the Clasis. This ensures consistency for children but also helps with lesson sharing. However, one thing to be aware of is that software almost always costs money so it might be a good idea to balance this when purchasing your board of choice.
