The Olympics will be held in London this year and Prim-Ed are the official educational partners of the Irish Olympic team. They have released a complete pack of stickers, banners, borders and books to help children learn all about the Olympics. There are three levels – lower, middle and upper. The lower level would suit a 1st/2nd class with the upper level suiting 5th/6th class. Each book contains complete lesson plans with photocopiable resources in all subjects. Essentially, if you are covering the Olympic Games in your lessons, this does everything for you.
Looking deeper into the books, children learn about various aspects of the Olympic games throughout history, Ireland’s participation in the games, all about London and the different Olympic venues and finally the sports being played at the games. Each book covers each of these topics at the required levels. Although there is a heavy emphasis on literacy, all other subjects are covered, e.g. data in Maths, history of the games, people in other lands in geography, etc.
Accompanying the books are excellent display resources. I particularly like the borders for display. The set also comes with Olympic stickers with motivational messages and A2 and A4 posters. Finally there’s a door hanger, which can be placed on the classroom door wishing Ireland the best for the event.
The whole set can be purchased from Prim-Ed for €115 but all items are sold separately. All in all, if you’re covering the Olympics, (which you probably should be!), this set of resources will make your planning life very easy. There’s easily enough in the books to keep children busy for the full term after Easter all the way to the time the Olympics begin!
Prim-Ed have teamed up with Mash.ie, our sister web site, to offer one user the chance to win the whole Olympic pack worth €115. Click on the banner below to see how you can win.
