Time Matters from Prim-Ed
These are made up of two books and do exactly what the title says and deal with the different aspects of teaching time. The authors of these books go into huge detail about time, devoting pages to the topic of time, pointing out that teaching time to children covers much more than simply telling the time!
Book One is suitable for Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd Class and Book Two is dedicated to the senior classes of 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. These books are an invaluable resource for any school and class teacher.
Book One gives some brilliant activities like nursery rhymes and names of books related to the area of time. It also discusses teaching displays, routines, ideas for days of the week, months, seasons, early understanding of time(night and day, sequencing) and telling the time. Both books are jam-packed with worksheets, games and activities for the subject of time in the primary classroom. What I really like about these books is how the author’s passion and knowledge is apparent! Each section of the book is started off with the author teacher going into detail of the mathematical concept in question. This is all done in an easy to read way.
Book Two covers the same topics as above but gives further information on the likely issues pupils may have with the subject of time and the type of terminology to use when teaching time. It also has some different types of integrated activities such as shadows and timelines so this is much more than a maths workbook!
The authors have put a lot of time into developing these books, I think, and I would highly recommend them to any school that wants to make the subject of time meaningful, fun and integrated.
These books costs €24.95 each and are are available from www.prim-ed.com.
