Our online poll reached 25 votes today. There is a clear indication so far that there is not enough software for Gaeilge in Irish Primary Schools. The first piece of Gaeilge language software will be available shortly. Thanks to Marian College who sent in a wordsearch to the web site. It is titled “Cluichí” and I am currently working on making it interactive. It hopefully will be online within the next couple of weeks or sooner. Keep checking back!

On the question of suitable software for Irish schools, I really think it’s time for teachers to take the lead on this. Surely the key to this is getting the structures in place which will encourage and develop the skills and talents of educationalists in this field. In the 21st century it seems incredible to think that there is no real indigenous digital response to the challenge of the school curriculum. It’s time to push this issue up the priority list. The best place to start is by talking about the framework that will make it happen. A 21st century Ireland without this indigenous digital response can’t seriously see itself as a serious player on the global ICT stage!
I think we need to start with the teachers first, back to the teacher training colleges, if the newest, freshest are not fully up to date with the new technologies, then the rest of us don’t stand a chance!
