Mindfulness Matters: The Zone for Kids

The Zone for Kids CD focuses on posture and belly breathing-intro to mindfulness and relaxation. It is recommended as the first CD that you use as a teacher with your children/class. It gives simple techniques for confidence and calmness for children ages 5-12 and it is designed to be used with an adult.

the_zone_previewThe Zone CD uses visualisation, affirmation and breathing exercises to help guide children in their awareness of their body and emotions. It is brilliant for relaxation and helping children to become quiet and alert at the same time. Like the Still Space CD, the first track is of vital importance for the adult/teacher to listen to before starting meditation in the classroom.

This CD is focussed on introducing children to the concept of mindfulness so it might be useful to have some preparatory work completed on this. The first track speaks about what a mindful moment is and how you can use your breathing to develop these moments. I really liked the simple approach the narrators took when explaining belly breathing as unless you are a practiced meditation teacher, then this will really help you make sure you are doing it properly as many people think they can breathe well when they cannot! The tracks range in length from 4 minutes to longer sessions of 15 minutes so the teacher can be flexible in how they utilise this.
